Jeremiah, prophet of the Creator
Greetings, friend!
Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, a priest that lived in Benjamin and in exile, received several prophetic messages. (Remember prophetic messages are NOT necessary chronological, both in nature or recording.)
His messages summarized are:
1. His calling. His unwillingness as he is very young. (The Israelites believed that public speakers must be 40 years or older.) His first message was that the people from the north will occupy Jerusalem. His messages would receive a lot of opposition from his enemies.
2. Israel's total apostasy and the Creator's condemnation of them.
3. Occupation of the country and of Jerusalem.
4. Israel is not serving the Creator with all their heart. Their hearts are not in their devotions.
5. How Hinnom will become a slaughterhouse.
6. The difference between the Creator and the idols of the heathens.
7. Israel broke the Covenant with their Creator.
8. Captivity eminent.
9. Israel defiled the Sabbath.
10. Opposition from a fellow priest led to a message of disaster.
11. Prophecy against the royal household and their exile foretold.
12. Prophecy about the coming prophet out of the line of David at the end of days.
13. Prophecy against false prophets.
14. Prophecy about seventy years of exile to come. The Israelites will be forced to serve Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon.
15. A written prophecy to people in exile. Serve the king of Babylon and stay true to the Creator, but do not despair as the time will come for them to return.
16. A written prophecy about the return of exiles to Jerusalem and surrounds.
17. Jeremiah bought a field in Benjamin and the title deed was put in a jar as a symbol of the return of the Israelites from exile.
18. The Creator told the Israelites to free their brethren that is enslaved by them, but the Israelites took their slaves back against the word of the Creator. This is condemned and this sin was added to the long list of sins that caused them to go in exile.
19. Message to the king: Do not trust the Egyptians as they will deceive you.
Jeremiah was thrown in a cistern and while there Jerusalem fell to the king of Babylon. He was taken out of the cistern by the Babylonians and took into exile with them.
In exile he brought them these messages:
1. Condemnation of idolatry.
2. Prophecy against Egypt for betraying Israel.
3. Prophecy against the Philistines.
4. Prophecy against Moab.
5. Prophecy against Ammon.
6. Prophecy against Babylon.
Jeremiah also penned several lament songs. These are recorded in the Torah and the bible in the book of Lamentations.
These and more prophecies are recorded in the book of Jeremiah in the Torah and the Bible.
