Job, the most patient man in history
Greetings, friend!
Another man in exile, Job, had a unique story.
Job was a righteous Israelite living in exile in the land of Uz. He was oft returning to the Creator making amends for his family and friends and acting as a priest for his fellow Israelites in exile. He was also a very rich man. He had seven and three daughters.
According to tradition, Satan asked the Creator to test him - first by losing all his possessions and then by losing his health. Even thru these harsh tests Job still thanked the Creator that he is alive and never denied Him - proving the Satan wrong in his assumptions.
His final test was that his three closest friends and his wife would accuse him of sinning. He had a long debate with them and a big talk with the Creator too - you can read it in the Torah and the Bible in the book of Job.
The Quran added only one detail not mentioned in these two accounts: Job after becoming irritable with his wife, took a vow that he would lash her several times for her accusations against him. The Creator said to him he must fulfill his vow, but with a tuft of grass and not a stick.
The Creator ordered Job's friends and his wife to repent of their sins and ordered Job to pray and make an offering for his wife and three friends like he always did.
After fulfilling his vow, the prayer and the offering, the Creator blessed him with double his possessions and gave him another seven sons and three daughters. His three daughters was the most beautiful among the exiles. He lived a long and happy life seeing the birth of his great-great-great-grandchildren.
That concludes the history of Israel in the promised land and in exile. Tomorrow we start with history of the major and minor prophets and some of their prophecies.
